Our third event on April 23rd was super chilled but lovely as ever. This week, the Islington Climate Centre teamed up with Transition Highbury to look at Waste and Recycling.
Caz Royds, from Transition Highbury, looked at why it's so difficult to recycle different types of plastic while Lindy Sharpe talked through the travesty that is food waste. Did you know that a third of all food grown is thrown away? In a climate emergency, this is a dreadful waste of natural resources, of animal lives and of all the energy spent shipping food around the world!
Visitors were invited to test their knowledge with a short Q&A "Where does Islington's waste really go??" (much harder than you think!) Still in a quiz mode, we asked visitors to get on their phones and take the Let's Talk Rubbish London survey.
Meanwhile, special guest speaker Nikki Gaddo, founder of the #ThrowAwayBetter campaign, talked through the new Goodmine app, finding good homes for unwanted items in Islington and beyond.
As ever, our super popular Toy Swap attracted passing parents and their kids. We'll keep this going as it's a keeper!
Next one? May 7th when we'll be hosting a Make and Mend Festival with Tessa the Dresser. Book your slots for a Visible Mending workshop here.
