A five-month internship for a select cohort of recent graduates and post-graduate students to gain real-life, on-the-ground experience in sustainability.
As it becomes more challenging to break into the sustainability sector, we offer a unique opportunity for enthusiastic job-seekers to get hands-on experience in a grassroots, mission-driven organisation. From social media to organisational operations, we provide a range of upskilling pathways for our interns. We are looking for a broad array of skills, so we need a diverse array of candidates. What we value most is enthusiasm, commitment, proactivity, and passion for sustainability.

With 70% of surveyed alumni in full-time employment, our scheme offers tangible benefits for our interns. This includes hard and soft skills, networks, community, and energy they need to land sustainability jobs.

Our program includes workshops, events, co-working, and projects to ensure that interns come out with skills, experience, and climate knowledge. Interns can select to work in one of several workstreams, led by our wonderful and committed team: climate communications, stakeholder management and partnerships, organisational operations and finance, and event management.

Interns also get access to curated training sessions on stakeholder engagement, climate change, biodiversity, data, and more. Our sustainability curriculum includes climate change and biodiversity workshops, Truth in Ten presentations, film screenings, and more. With access to our extensive range of networks–including Business Declares, Greater London Authority, EcoGrad, Climate Majority Project, London Borough councils, Trust the People, Climate Fresk, Climate Reality Project, Octopus, Restart Group.

Through working within a climate and community organisation, interns build connections that boost their confidence, give them valuable proof of working successfully within an organisation, and develop essential knowledge and skills for the competitive job market.

Upon completion of the cycle, interns will receive a LinkedIn recommendation from the Islington Climate Centre staff, along with a professional headshot.
Interns will need to commit to at least one day of work a week; our working day tends to be Tuesdays, but this can be flexible. We strongly prefer in-person work, as this is how we build community, so applicants must be able and willing to come to our Islington base on a weekly basis. We offer co-working space, too, should interns wish to use the space for other forms of work, too.
In order to complete the internship and earn the official LinkedIn recommendation and headshot, interns will have to complete their work to a satisfactory level and attend several supplementary workshops and events. This includes a Climate Fresk workshop, Biodiversity Collage workshop, Truth in Ten talk, a People’s Emergency Briefing screening, a Fixing/Repair cafe and attending/helping out with at least one ICC event. Most of these will be hosted by the ICC. We will also offer free facilitation training for those looking to become Climate Fresk and/or Biodiversity Collage facilitators.
Interns will also be assigned a buddy who is already involved with the ICC to support inclusion and cohesion.
