We're really pleased to announce that Islington Right to Grow (R2G) held a successful launch meeting last week. It was well attended, many of us had met at the January Assembly on Food R2G tables. This meeting was our first opportunity to gather and discuss next steps as Islington R2G.
Carmen Ho from Tower Hamlets (TH) R2G gave an inspiring presentation on how the TH group formed, involved local communities, key issues and negotiations with the Council to adopt R2G.
It's an exciting journey involving everyone, community centres, gardens, parks, estates and others to work with the Council to agree to free access to public land for growing. The movement is having success in several London boroughs and parts of the country. Currently Islington Council broadly supports the aims of the campaign and welcomes the associated benefits.
We will be holding more meetings and workshops and contacting as many people as possible to get the campaign running over the next few months.
If you're interested, we'd love for you to join us.
Look out for notices and updates on the ICC website and contact ICC (food@islingtonclimatecentre.co.uk) if you would like to get involved.
We're also happy to report that the Islington Now wrote about us in this article
See you soon,
Islington R2G team
